Where the story begins

In Marquette, Michigan, two young brothers are struggling with their father’s mysterious disappearance when they notice a strangely dressed girl enter their local ice cream parlor. After watching her slip inside the downtown ore dock and disappear during Orehenge—the rare alignment of the rising sun with the dock’s massive pillars—the brothers find themselves lost in the land of Vaelrün, a fantastical mirror image of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. As the boys seek a way home, they discover an ancient and troubling power within themselves and clues to the whereabouts of their missing father.

the heart of vaelrün

Vaelrün is a project years in the making that explores how the wounds of the past shape the present generation, the power of nonviolence to break cycles of conflict, and the hope that forgiveness and redemption are possible for those who have caused great harm to themselves and others.
